What it says
The college’s annual catalogues list every student by class, with a home address. Found 10 Oct 2026; the 1895-96 page read from its image by Claude, the others from the scans’ text.
- 1895-96, Freshman Class, p. 47: “Holbrook, Frances … Whidley Island, Wash.” (“Whidley” for Whidby).
- 1896-97, Junior Class, p. 43: “Holbrook, Frances … Whidley Island, Wash.”
- 1897-98, Senior Class, p. 40: “Holbrook, Frances … Whidley Island, Wash.”
She is not in the catalogues for 1890-94 or 1898-1910. The catalogues of these years list three
classes (Freshman, Junior, Senior), and the Emerson College Magazine calls her one of the class of
‘98 (magazine-emerson-college-holbrook-1896-1904). The college’s president was Charles Wesley
Emerson; in her typescript she calls him “the compiler’ dear teacher, the great Dr. Charles Wesley
Emerson” (scan 141).
