What it says
Thomas’s history of American printers (first published 1810), in the second edition with later editors’ notes, read in the archive.org full text. Used for Samuel Kneeland (1697-1769), brother of Rachel (Kneeland) Foster: he “served an apprenticeship with Bartholomew Green” and was “for a great length of time, printer to the governor and council.” Thomas says Kneeland and his partner Green printed “an edition of the Bible in small 4to. This was the first Bible printed, in America, in the English language,” with a false London imprint; the editor’s note says the historian Bancroft questioned this (1:105-109).
