What it says
Prints the Mendon town records in order, with extracts from the Massachusetts Archives. Used for Job Tyler:
- “Sept. 11, 1665. Owannamaug, Indian Chiefe, neere Marlborough complained of Job Tyler, of Roxbury, for cutting and carrying off hay from his meadows. Fined two shillings and six pence & cost ten shillings.” (p. 43, from the Massachusetts Archives)
- 16 July 1669, the selectmen’s summons: “his answer was he could not nor would come, but if the Selectmen had more to say to him than he to them they might come to him.” (pp. 43-44)
- “Whereas their has been complaint against Job Tiler, hertofore recorded, he has given satisfaction for that ofence.” (p. 60)
- His signature on the agreement of 1 Dec 1669 settling Rev. Joseph Emerson.
The line “Job Tyler is as cantankerous as ever,” quoted in Mollie Pfeiffer’s typescript as a Mendon minute, is not in these records.
