From the research files. The settlement of Manchester (Green Brier Ridge): in the fall of 1817 fifteen families from Cumberland County, Maine, came west together as “the great ‘land fleet’” by Portland, Albany, Olean, Pittsburgh and the Ohio to Lawrenceburgh (p. 541); the Sylvesters among the first settlers of Manchester in 1818 (p. 555). Harriet Ellingwood married Samuel M. Kennedy in 1842 and died in 1846 (p. 792).
