What it says
Journal of the Essex Institute, read in the archive.org full text. Its “Gleanings” of English records include the will of John Lorde of Redriffe, clothier, 1603, which names “two houses in Sudbury,” his “father Anthony Lorde” and his “brother Robert Lorde” (17:73). The research reads this as suggesting that Anthony Lord was the grandfather, not the father, of Robert Lord of Ipswich (b. about 1603); that is not proved. The Gleanings chart also records the marriage of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s maternal grandparents, Richard Manning and Miriam Lord.
