What it says
The descendants of Edward Doty of the Mayflower. No one in the Stephens, Churchill, Harlow or Rider lines descends from him; the book matters here for the Doty marriages around those families (Warren research, section 9).
- Mary (Churchill), widow of Thomas Doty, who married Henry Churchill in 1687/8, was still living in 1722 as “widow of Henry Churchill of Plimton.” That marriage, not Eleazer Churchill’s, is the source of the “Mary Doty” that The Churchill Family in America (1904) and Mollie Pfeiffer gave Eleazer.
- James Warren, grandson of Richard Warren, bought out the other Doty heirs and so acquired Edward Doty’s Plymouth land.
- It made Joseph Doty’s wives Elizabeth Warren and then Deborah Hatch, a guess since superseded: his wife was Deborah Ellis.
Entry 1274 makes Edward Doten, the Plymouth sail maker whom the selectmen (among them a Gideon Holbrook) asked in 1819 to have put under a guardian for his “excessive drinking,” a Plymouth mariner, later a sailmaker, who died in 1828: a descendant of the Mayflower passenger Edward Doty (d. 1655), not the passenger himself.
