What it says

Compiled genealogy, read in the archive.org full text. It prints the Massachusetts Bay Company’s second general letter to Endecott, 28 May 1629: “That you would show all lawful favor and respect unto the planters that come over in the Lion’s Whelp, out of the counties of Dorset and Somerset; that you would appoint unto William Dodge, a skilful and painful husbandman, the charge of a team of horses” (p. 8). William Dodge settled at Bass River side, was made freeman 17 April 1637, received 60 acres “next to John Woodbury’s” on 3 Sept 1637, and on 28 July 1644 bought for £40 the 200 acres “late the property of Peter Palfry,” part of the Old Planters’ tract granted in 1635/6 to Palfrey, Balch, Trask, John Woodberry and Conant (pp. 8-9). His children: “Capt. John, b. 1636 … Capt. William, b. 19th Sept., 1640 … Hannah, b. 1642; m. Samuel Porter, who d. 1660; m. 2d, Thomas Woodberry, 2d Dec. 1661” (p. 15). Of Hannah: “His widow, Hannah, married 2d, 2 December, 1661, Thomas Woodberry, by whom she had nine children. They lived on the Capt. Thomas Lowthrop farm” (p. 16).
