  • Louis Borell (p. 1068): “an early settler, was born February 22, 1844, in Bavaria, Germany, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bower) Borell. Of the eleven children in the family, there were four, Louisa, Margaret, Joseph, and Louis, who came to the United States.” Louis came to Milwaukee in 1862 and to Wright County in 1865, taking 160 acres in section 6, Woodland Township. “Mr. Borell was a prominent man and served as supervisor of the town. For a time he was president of the Co-Operative Creamery at Waverly.” The Margaret here is taken to be Frank Kuchenmeister’s wife.
  • The Catholic church at Delano (Savs): after the Civil War, “Joseph Matter, with his brothers, Louis, Philipp, John and Anthony, and Mathias Schaust, Joseph Baumann, Andrew Oehrlein, John Kuchenmeister, John Muckenhirn, Joseph Stolz and Mike Brenner, started with the work and erected the first Catholic church building on our cemetery. In 1869 they bought a bell, paying $200 for it.” On 1 March 1874 a meeting in Val. Eppel’s store chose a building committee for the church in the town, among them John Kuchenmeister; St. Peter’s cornerstone was laid on 15 June 1874. “Val. Kuchenmeister” is among the pew-holders.
