Biography of the composer Daniel Read (1757-1836) of New Haven, author of the hymn tunes “Windham” and “Sherburne” and of The American Singing Book (1785). It gives his birth as 16 Nov 1757 at Rehoboth, “the son of Daniel and Mary Read.” Lothrop has a son Daniel of Capt. Daniel Read and Mary White born 10 Nov 1757, recorded at Attleborough; the research takes the composer to be very probably that son (inference, set out on Capt. Daniel Read’s page).
