A printed account form of the court at Fort Smith, filled in by hand, in which a deputy marshal claimed his fees and expenses for an arrest in the Indian Territory. Seen 11 Oct 2026 as a screenshot of the image in the Ancestry viewer; the foot of the form is below the screen. The defendant’s name is unclear.
“United States versus A. C. [or G.?] Wooten et al. In the Western District of Arkansas before U.S. District Court Commissioner J. Brizzolara [?], Esq. Charge: Larceny. In the Indian Country.”
- Warrant dated Sept 15, 1892, served by Deputy Marshal E. H. Bruner, by arresting the defendant A. G. [?] Wooten at 6 miles S [?] Chelsea, I. T., Sept 17, 1892: $2.00. Mileage on writ, 163 miles at 6 cents a mile from Ft. Smith, Ark., to the place of arrest: $9.78.
- Expenses while endeavouring to arrest: “Sept 15 ’92, subsistence & feed [of?] horse, Sept 15 to Sept 17 ’92,” $4.00; maximum allowance, 2 days at $2 a day, $4.00.
- “2 day’s feeding,” 1 prisoner, Sept 17 to Sept 18, 1892: $1.50. Arriving at Fort Smith, Sept 18, 1892. Mileage returning 1 prisoner, 1 guard and the deputy, 163 miles each, 489 miles at 10 cents a mile: $48.90.
- Discharging 1 prisoner “on bond,” Sept 19, 1892: $0.50. Guard: Thomas Pratt [?].
- Attendance of the deputy during the examination before the commissioner, Sept 19, 1892: $2.00. Total: $68.68.
