Notes
Per the 1979 Gasconade County History quoted on her memorial, she and William Hollingsworth came through Ashe County, North Carolina, Clay County, Kentucky (by 1815) and Morgan County, Indiana, to Gasconade County, Missouri, where they homesteaded 80 acres on 16 December 1840 and 120 acres on 1 March 1841. Their children’s spouses include James Hollingsworth (wife Martha “Patsey” Read), Susan (Larkin Henson) and Charity (James Henson). The same history says she was full-blooded Cherokee, which the memorial’s maintainer disputes.
Which William Hollingsworth of the 1840 Morgan County census was her husband is open: the free colored William, aged 55-100, with Larkin and James Henson as the next two heads, or another. A William Hollingsworth married Nancy Reed in Morgan County in 1832 and Susannah Reed in 1839, which would rule him out as Rhoda’s husband (she lived until 1873) unless the two marriages belong to two different Williams. The identification was downgraded to possible on 27 September 2026.
