Notes

Wife of Philip Stanwood of Gloucester and administratrix of his estate. Her maiden name is unknown. She married (2) John Pearce on 12 Sept 1673 (Bolton).

As administratrix she agreed a division with the children who were of age: “Jane Stainewood now Jane [Pearce] being apoynted administratrix to the estate of her late husband Phillip Stainewood, deceased, being now married to another man…” In old age a Town Book note says “John Pearce is very old, almost bed-rid, and relieved by the town” (Bolton pp. 20-22).

Mollie's typescript· 1 passage · 1 claim checked

What Mollie wrote about her in The Holbrook and Low Families, and her claims about her checked against the records.

  1. Philip Stanwood's widow Jane married John Pearce the next year, Major Hathorne officiating, was widowed again after twenty-two years, and lived eleven more.

His widow, Jane consoled herself the next year by marrying John Pearce "mayjor harthorne" officiating. In twenty-two years Jane was widowed again, and lived so for eleven years to her death.

Checked against the records

  • Disproven
Thomas Riggs was executor of Philip Stanwood's will

Bolton's Stanwood history (1899) mentions no will: Philip's widow Jane was administratrix of his estate. Riggs did sign the inventory of their son John's estate.
