About it
The resolutions brought into the House at the end of January 1862, as the Republican paper at Olympia printed them with the vote: the Union “so incorporated with the institutions of our country, that its dissolution would endanger their permanence,” and Washington Territory “not found wanting in devotion to the Union, in fidelity to the Laws and Constitution, or in due respect for, and support of Mr. Lincoln’s administration.” Eight members voted for them and sixteen against, Holbrook among them.
