- William Whiting: Treasurer of the Colony of Connecticut "from 1641 until 1647, chosen Magistrate of Connecticut in 1641 and continued in office until his death in 1647; Commissioner of the United Colonies for Connecticut in 1646." "In 1646 a plot was laid by Sequasson, Sachem of the Naticks, to kill Governors Haynes and Hopkins and Mr. Whiting on account of the just and faithful protection which these gentlemen had afforded Uncas. The plot was disclosed by a friendly Indian and the danger averted." "He begins his Will, dated March 20, 1643, by stating that he intends 'a voyage presently unto sea'. The last addition to his Will was made July 24, 1647, and he probably died soon after, leaving widow Susanna." Children include "Joseph born October 2, 1640; died October 8, 1717."
- Joseph Whiting "was a merchant, first of Westfield, Mass., but returned to Hartford in 1675 or 6. He was Treasurer of the Colony of Connecticut from 1678 until his death (thirty-nine years) in 1717." His house on Main Street, Hartford, "near the corner of Charter Oak Avenue," was "a hospitable place." "He married, first, Oct. 5th, 1669, Mary, daughter of Hon. John Pynchon, and granddaughter of Hon. William Pynchon. Her Mother was Anna [sic; Amy], daughter of Hon. John [sic; George] Wyllys. His second marriage was in 1676 to Anne, daughter of Col. John Allyn." "Children of Joseph and Mary Pynchon Whiting — Mary born Aug. 19, 1672, married Joseph Sheldon and second John Ashley. Joseph born October 5, 1674, died young."
