Daughter of Job Tyler. At "about 15 yeares old" she deposed with her parents and her brother Moses against John Godfrey in 1659, that they had seen "a thing like a bird" come into their house with him at night (see Job Tyler).
On 18 Nov 1662 she married Richard Post of Woburn, born about 1627, whose first wife, Susanna Sutton, had probably died without children; their daughter Mary Post was born in 1664 (The Tyler Genealogy, 1:23-24). The Posts settled at Mendon with her father: on 1 Jan 1674 Richard Post was chosen the town's constable, with "Mathyas Puffer and Job Tiler, Survayors of hy ways" (Annals of Mendon, p. 57).
King Philip's War. On 14 July 1675, in the first attack of the war in Massachusetts Bay, Nipmuc men under Matoonas fell on the settlers of Mendon "as they were at their Labour in the Field, killing five or six of them" (Hubbard, 1:86). Richard Post was probably one of them, "killed in Mendon, Mass., July 14, 1675, by the Indians" (Brigham). Drake, editing Hubbard, remembered him: "we have the Name of only one of them, namely Richard Post. He lived on the Road from Mendon towards Sherburne, and a Portion of that Way, though long since discontinued, yet bears the Name of Post's Lane" (1:86, n. 141). Mendon was abandoned and burned that winter, and the Tylers scattered to Roxbury and Rowley Village.
On 1 Mar 1677/8 she married John Bridges of Andover, a widower and blacksmith, constable there in 1678. In 1692 she was accused of witchcraft, and her daughter, "Mary Post, of Rowley ... single woman," was indicted and tried at Salem in January 1692/3 (Brigham 1:24).
Open questions
- A record of Richard Post's death at Mendon (Massachusetts Archives), and any probate of his estate (Suffolk or Middlesex).
- Her death, and the outcome of the accusation against her in 1692.
