"Mary Molford the daughter of Thomas and Mary mulford was borne the twenty Sixth day of June : In the yeare : 1695" (Eastham records, MD 8:93). Her father's will (1728) names "Mary Mayo" and "Elizabeth Mayo": she and her sister Elizabeth married the brothers Daniel and Jeremiah Mayo (Thomas Mulford's will, as transcribed online). Her grandfather Nathaniel Bassett's will of 1709/10 left her mother enough "to by each of her children a pocket Byble" (Barnstable Probate 3:146, WikiTree transcript); Mary, then 14, was one of those children.
On 15 Sept 1723 the Truro church, where her father was Elder, admitted "Mary wife of Danll Mayo" and baptized her sons Daniel and Samuel; "Dismist" was added to her entry later. Executrix of her husband's will (1754). The division of her estate in 1760 names "Daniel Mayo, Samuel Mayo, Marcy Mayo, Sarah Holbrook, Mary Bickford, Martha Holbrook, and Anna Young."
Open questions
- Is the broken stone at Chequesset Neck, Wellfleet ("dy of YO ...... DANIEL DIED 65th"), hers? She would have been in her 65th year in 1759/60. It could also be her mother-in-law Sarah (Howes) Mayo's.
- Why was she "Dismist" from the Truro church?
