- note
- Per a FamilySearch contributor's account; a widow with two children, Sigel Charles and Pluma, whom Davis adopted. She died before 1881.
Emma Bruner's second husband, married in Benton County, Arkansas, in February 1881; 13 years older than she. Living at Siloam Springs, where their daughter Elizabeth Jane was born in 1883. Her Social Security record names him John L. Davis; her death certificate, Louis Davis. The marriage seems to have ended, perhaps in divorce, before Emma became Mrs. Dunlap.
J. A. Davis, 22, licensed to marry Laura B. Morton on the same day and page as J. L. Davis in January 1881, was very likely a son by an earlier marriage [?].
Open questions
- When and where did he die? Did he and Emma divorce?
