Son of James Eno the barber, born at Windsor on 30 Oct 1651. He married Abigail Bissell in 1678, died in 1714 and is buried with her in the Old Burying-ground at Simsbury (source). His son David was the father of Gen. Roger Enos and an ancestor of Gifford Pinchot.
King Philip's War. Windsor sent "not far from 125, mostly dragoons" to the war in all (Stiles 1:221), and his wife's father, Samuel Bissell, was fined in March 1676 for letting his pressed horse go. James, twenty-four when the war came, perhaps went with the town's men to the Great Swamp Fight. Windsor's historian took him for one of the eleven men who later asked for land as "the sole survivors of the Swamp Fight," among them "Josiah Gillet and James Enos, probably of Windsor" (Ancient Windsor 1:225, 2:242).
Research: McMillan, Humphrey-Enos and Bell-Gerow: Notable Connections Research; the war: King Philip's War: the Connecticut valley, the Colony of Connecticut, Long Island and New Paltz.
