- note
- Named in the Dorchester records at the burial of her daughter Sarah in September 1638.
Wife of Jonas Humphrey of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, and Dorchester. The Dorchester records name her once: "Sarah, the daughter of Jonas Humphrey & Frances his wife was Buried (7th.) 1638," that is, in September 1638. Savage says Jonas came "perhaps with w. Frances, whose d. Sarah was bur. here Sept. 1638."
Modern compiled trees call her Frances Coley and give her marriage to Jonas at Wendover on 11 June 1607 (the marriage is on his page). Their sources are Ancestral File and the Doggett-Daggett genealogy (1895); neither the surname nor the date has been checked against the Wendover register. She had died before Jonas married Jane, widow of George Weeks (inference).
Open questions
- Her maiden name: was she Frances Coley? Check the Wendover register.
- Was she the mother of all his children, Susanna among them? Savage says only that Jonas came "perhaps" with her, and no record names Susanna's mother.
- When did she die?
