She died before him. Perhaps the "Mrs. Mary E. Cavey [?]" of Lake City whom he married at Aztec, New Mexico, about the beginning of January 1902 (newspaper-san-juan-county-index-1902-clifford); the tree that posted that clipping calls her Mary Gertrude Craig.

Named for his grandfather Eli Woodruff Bruner. About the beginning of January 1902, "Eli W. Clifford and Mrs. Mary E. Cavey [?], of Lake City," came from Hinsdale County, Colorado, to be married by Justice Tinker at Aztec, New Mexico (record). Whether she is the Gertrude of his death certificate is not yet shown. A retired farmer and cattle raiser, in the Bothell community for 21 years when he died; widowed. Cremated at Washelli Crematory, 4 June 1947. The informant was Mrs. Arthur Bailey of Bothell, probably his niece Lucille Clifford Bailey.
