Brother of George Ellis (b. 1747). Probably the Ebenezer Ellis who enlisted with Gamaliel on 20 June 1775 in Capt. Josiah King's company, Col. David Brewer's regiment; at Roxbury in Dec 1775; as sergeant he signed a ration receipt "on march from Dorchester to New York," dated New York 29 Apr 1776. Later at Rhode Island (1777) and Tiverton (1780).
