"Mt Baker & Cascade Range, from Whitby's Island," John Mix Stanley, 1853
About it
Whidbey Island as the artist of Governor Stevens’s railroad survey saw it in 1853, the year after Richard Holbrook settled on Penn Cove: a settler’s cabins on a cleared point, forest and shore, and Mount Baker and the Cascades across the water. Where on the island Stanley drew it the plate doesn’t say.
