A sporting goods window, Madison

A shop window dressed for “National Baseball Week,” with “Play Ball!” and signs for “Equipment” and “Trophies, Cups, Medals” (page 1). On the back (page 2): “Cudge’s store? Cudge Ellingwood was capt. of Northwestern’s baseball team. Craig Belmondo has his uniform,” with the stamp of the University Photo Shop, Madison. In the Depression Cudge bought the Wisconsin Sporting Goods Company of Madison at a receiver’s sale and ran it with Dutch Midland, who had managed his baseball team (his memoir, scan 115).
