This was eight months into his "Paul Jones" walk, which set out from Boston in February 1894 to go round the world in a year (Newspapers on Emil C. Pfeiffer as "Paul Jones," 1894-1902). The oath was sworn at Kansas City or nearby, in Jackson County, which fits the walk's route west; the return date of 1 Feb 1895 fits its year. Arthur F. Pfeiffer, who vouched for him in New York, shares the surname; how he was related is not stated.
