The roster of the territorial Council and House by session, compiled by Ellen Levesque for the Washington State Library. Under "1861 Ninth Session," House: "Island and Snohomish . . . RICHARD B. HOLBROOK." It is his only entry (index: "Holbrook, Richard B. . . . A11"). The session met at Olympia from December 1861. In the session before (1860) Island's member was Thomas Coupe.
In that session, by Bancroft (History of Washington, Idaho, and Montana, 1890, p. 218 n. 2, from the Washington Standard of 22 Mar 1862), the House sent the Council a set of resolutions of loyalty to the Union, which the Council put off, and then voted down a second set; "Holbrook" was among the nays. Bancroft (p. 38 n.) also lists among the pioneers of 1852 "Richard B. Holbrook (married Mrs Sylvester, née Lowe, of Maine)."
