A compiled town history, using the town records and the letters of 1676.
Cited for King Philip's War (research/king-philips-war/): the attack on Northampton of 14 Mar 1676,
when Turner's Massachusetts company and two Connecticut companies were in the town: five houses burned
(Holton, Alvord, Alexander, Allen, Clesson), none of them the Sheldons' (1:310-312); Rev. John Russell
found "about a dozen of the enemy slain," while Menowniet said one killed and four wounded (1:310). Also
Joseph Sheldon as a Northampton soldier in King William's War (1:575).
