A compiled town history. Its author saw the Dorchester paper of 1670 with "the autograph of King Philip attached."
Cited for King Philip's War (research/king-philips-war/): on 12 July 1670, at Capt. William Hudson's
house on Wading River, Philip and Squamaug, "Sachem of the Massachusetts," settled the bounds between
them on the Plymouth-Massachusetts line, John Sassamon signing as witness; the agreement gave Philip "a
large tract of land that formerly was claimed by Chickataubut" (pp. 50-51). This was the meeting Capt.
Hopestill Foster of Dorchester had offered Philip "at Captain Hudson's farme at Wading river upon the
12th of July next" (Pierce, Foster Genealogy (1899)).
