Read in the archive.org full text (Patricia Hatten's maternal line: Kuchenmeister, Borrell, Panian, Mihelič, Haberkorn, Lang). George Haberkorn "was born in Babaron [Bavaria] August 13, 1827, and is the son of Adam and Eve (Renbener) Haberkorn, who spent their entire lives in the Fatherland." At seventeen he sailed on the Schiller to Baltimore, worked four years for a Mr. Steigers and then for Mr. Sherrill, and entered a quarter-section. He married Theresia Lang on 4 October 1852; ten children, "Mary, Adolph, Julia, Rose, George, Joseph, John, Aloys, Theresia and Frank." "The first brewery in Jefferson Township was built and operated by Mr. Haberkorn." He "has been a Democrat and a Catholic ever since," and "Although often petitioned to accept public office he has steadily refused to do so."

The statement that his parents never left Germany is contradicted by the National Register nomination of 1979 (source) and by Adam Haberkorn's place among the founders of the Sherrill's Mound parish in 1852.
