Son of Thomas Holbrooke of Norton Malreward, probably by his first wife (Davis 1945). His father's will (1571/2) left him £5, a colt and the lease of a fee farm at Compton Dando, with a horse to be kept for him on the farm or park there for life.
Very probably the "Thomas Holbrooke of Compton Dando" who granted leases for lives there in 1576 and 1577 (Bristol Archives AC/D/26/9 and 10, catalogue only). A "John, son of Thomas," baptised at Norton Malreward on 23 June 1563 may be his son.
