- summary
- Born at Norwalk, Connecticut, in 1718, probably the eldest son of Jonathan Fairchild, the Norwalk fuller, and Eleanor Whitney. By 1742 he married Ann, probably the eldest daughter of Ephraim Raymond, and had children recorded at Norwalk; by 1779 he was of Bedford, Westchester County, New York. His son Jonathan, born 1744, is possibly Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett, New York.

- Phoenix, from the Norwalk records, lists him first among the children of Jonathan and Eleanor (Whitney) Fairchild, and he "had a part of his father's estate in 1772," as Phoenix abstracts the distribution.

Gilmore identifies her with the "eldest daughter, Ann Fairchild," of Ephraim Raymond's will, made in 1765 at Bedford, where Thomas was living by 1779; the will's "grandchild Sarah, 'that I brought up'" is probably Thomas and Ann's eldest daughter Sarah, born 1742.

Eldest son of Jonathan Fairchild, the Norwalk fuller, and Eleanor Whitney. In the distribution of his father's estate in 1772 he had "4 acres of land at New Dam Bogs, and a third of 15 acres at Toilsome, all in Norwalk"; and he "was of Bedford, N. Y., 18 Feb. 1779, at which time he sold land in Norwalk." The deed of that day, to his brother Abraham, was witnessed by "Jonathan Fairchild ... and Ebenezer Fairchild" (source). His wife's father, Ephraim Raymond, also lived at Bedford, in Westchester County, New York. When and where Thomas died has not been found.
Children recorded at Norwalk: Sarah, 14 November 1742; Jonathan, 29 August 1744; John, 5 April 1747 (Gilmore: 15 April); Mary, 31 January 1748/9. Gilmore (2001) adds Ezekiel, born 1754, and places James, Hannah, Stephen and Benjamin as probable further sons and daughters (source). John, born 1747, a Revolutionary pensioner (S10641), settled in Columbia County, New York; Stephen's pension file is W1403.
The family's descent from him rests on the identification of Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett with his son Jonathan, born 1744, which is only possible (see Jonathan Fairchild).
Open questions
- His marriage and death. The Norwalk church and Barbour records for the children's baptisms should give their mother's name.
