- Eldest of Thomas Fairchild's children in the Stratford records (Orcutt; Gilmore). When his lands were recorded on 10 Dec 1674 they included 12 acres "received from his father 30 Dec 1668" (Gilmore, from the Stratford land records).

- note
- "Samuel, son of Thomas Fairchild, m. Mary, dau. of Moses Wheeler" (Orcutt). Their first known child was born in 1681.
Ship's carpenter of Stratford, Connecticut, eldest son of Thomas Fairchild and his first wife, a daughter of Robert Seabrook. Born on 31 August 1640, he was "Probably the first white child born in Stratford, Conn." (source). "On 10 Dec 1674 Samuel's lands were recorded. He had 12A received from his father 30 Dec 1668, land received by gift from his grandfather Seabrook and land he had received in exchange with brother Thomas. ... Samuel was a ship's carpenter and a member of the Congregational Church in Stratford" (source).
He married Mary, daughter of Moses Wheeler, the Stratford ship carpenter and ferryman. Their children: Robert, born 1681, "to whom Moses Wheeler left property"; Samuel, about 1682 or 1683, very probably the Samuel Fairchild who in 1712/13 helped settle his grandfather Wheeler's estate; Anna; Edward, born 1685/6, of Newtown; and Jonathan, born 10 October 1692, who went to Norwalk. Samuel died in January 1704/5, and Mary married Benjamin Beach that December.
The family's descent from him rests on the identification of Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett with his great-grandson Jonathan, born at Norwalk in 1744, which is only possible (see Jonathan Fairchild).
Open questions
- The distribution of his estate (Fairfield probate, 1705), which should name his children, Jonathan among them.
