note
Heinegg calls Thomas his probable father. Taxed beside him as "Molata" in 1755.

One of the two candidates for Meredith Collins's father. Presented in Louisa County, Virginia, on 28 May 1745 for failing to list a tithable (probably his wife); sued by Richard Vernon on 25 November 1746 for £16.9 and 14 pounds of deer skins; presented with William Collins on 24 February 1746/7 for fishing and hunting on the Sabbath. Taxed in Orange County, North Carolina, in 1755 as a "Molata" on two Black tithes. Two tithes in Botetourt County, Virginia, in 1771, and on the 1773 delinquent list marked "Indian Lands," on the New River. "Samuel Collens," this man or a son, took the oath of allegiance with Capt. John Cox's company in the fall of 1777, beside "Jno. Collens" and the Riddles. Living on the South Fork of the New River in 1779. In 1787 the Wilkes County household was one man aged 21-60 and one woman.

Heinegg groups most of the Wilkes and Ashe County Collins men (George, David, Martin, Valentine, Vardy, Ambrose, Charles) as his descendants. No record names his sons. The FamilySearch tree makes him the father of Griffin Collins (b. c. 1773).
