Yeoman. His father's will (1571/2) left him the lease of a farm at Compton Dando with a tenement called Cases and a cottage called Busshes, and a wain and four oxen; with his brother John he was named in his mother's Compton Dando lease of 1565. Overseer and witness of his mother's will (1592). His daughter Melior was baptised at Compton Dando on 4 Oct 1605, and he was at Queen Charlton by 1609, when his son Robert was baptised there on 4 Nov.
His will names his wife Elnor, son Robert, daughters Jone (eldest), Katherine and "Milliard" (Melior), and "William Holbroke the sonne of John Holbrooke my brother deceased." That nephew is now taken to be a younger man than his brother William of Glastonbury. Davis (1945) read "Milliard" as a married name; the register copy and the Compton Dando baptism show it was Melior.
