Joseph Warren was born at Plymouth, a son of Richard Warren of the Mayflower and a brother of Mary (Warren) Bartlett, and he was in his father's lot in the cattle division of 1627. About 1653 he married Priscilla Faunce. In 1671 he, Lt. Morton, William Clarke and William Harlow were appointed to buy "whatsoeuer lands are yett vnpurchased ... att Sepecan" (PCR 5:54). The rest of his mother's estate was settled on him in 1673/4.

King Philip's War. On 7 Jan 1675/6, with warrants to press eleven men "to goe forth as souldiers against the Indians," Plymouth's town meeting chose a council "to advice and order the affaires of the Towne": "Capt Willam Bradford Joseph Warren Mr Thomas Cushman Willam Crow Leiftenant Morton Willam Clarke Serjeant harlow." The same meeting chose a committee "to make and provide Clothing in the behalfe of the Towne for the souldiers now to Goe forth ... Mr Gray Joseph Warren Jabez howland Willam Clarke Joseph Bartlett," the last probably his nephew (Records of the Town of Plymouth 1:145-146). When the colony's council of war named a council for every town on 29 Feb 1675/6, Plymouth's was "Nathaniel Morton, Joseph Warren, Joseph Howland" (Records of the Colony of New Plymouth 5:186). On 13 June 1676 he, William Crow and Jabez Howland were chosen "to present to the Court in the townes behalfe what charges is due to them from the Country," and on 19 Aug he, Crow and Sgt. Harlow were to "take the accoumpt of each manes estate ... for defraying of the publicke Charges of the Collonie" (Plymouth Town Records 1:150-151). In March 1676/7 the colony shared out the contribution "made by diuers Christians in Ireland" for those impoverished by the war; Plymouth's £8 was to be distributed by "Leift. Morton, Joseph Warren, Willam Crow" (PCR 5:222).

He died about 1689.
