- note
- A candidate son, downgraded from probable to possible on 27 Sep 2026. His Kentucky birth c. 1808 does not fit the J. Reed household's being in Ashe County, North Carolina, in 1810, so either his birthplace is loose or he belongs to another Reed household.
In Iowa by about 1838 (the 18 years' residence he gave in 1856, a round figure) and certainly by 1840, two pages from Tilford Reed in the census of Iowa Territory (headed Van Buren). He settled in Wells Township, Appanoose County, where in 1850 his household, counted white, had about ten people, with William H., Lucille, Sarah J., Dialpha, Frank, Reston, Daniel and Melissa. Mary (Reed) Collins settled in the same township after Jesse's death, near Benjamin and Tilford rather than near the Collinses in Center Township.
He is not among the children in JoEllen Reed's notes on the Morgan County James.
Open questions
- Is he James's son? Nothing yet ties him to James except his surname and Mary's settling near him.
- His 1850 entry: age, birthplace and page.
